While the online revolution has changed the landscape of marketing as we know it, the old ways are still relevant and effective. In fact, old-fashioned methods can serve as an adjunct to a great digital campaign, making it well-rounded and accessible to everyone.
In short, if you neglect old tricks, you could be missing one!
Here are the best ones.
Flyers still – ahem – fly (sorry)
It’s easy to laugh at flyers as a relic of the 1980s and 1990s, but they are a cost-effective and useful marketing method – if you do it right, of course!
It’s an offline marketing method that targets your audience much more acutely than many others. You advertise your spin class at the local gym or swimming pool because you’re reaching people who are already interested in fitness. It’s better to spread out a small number of flyers in targeted locations than pay for hundreds and spend time putting them through countless letterboxes.
Give QR codes a go
The most effective marketing methods are a combination of old and new, but the best of both worlds. QR (quick response) codes ask people to scan the printed code with their phone which takes them to the right page of the website. Many people think they’re a bit old fashioned now, but they have their place – bus stops and flyers in particular. It’s a good example of how printed and online media can complement each other.
You can still use business cards
We’ve all got the company Facebook page, the LinkedIn presence, the Twitter followers… However, when you’re talking to a potential contact or customer in a patchy wi-fi area, you simply whip out a classy, well-designed business card. It’s a nice touch and it can make a good impact.
Go offline to sell online
You might make most or all of your sales online, but you shouldn’t neglect the offline world! After all, it’s still there and we still live in it!
Try sending a personal thank-you letter to a new customer, or a regular one, along with a discount voucher for their next purchase. Again, this combines online and offline and it makes you stand out.
